Promoting health and well-being in rural area is always regarded as indispensable in developing countries due to the lack of education and medical support.
For the children who live in Samrong Village, Cambodia, it is found that their concept about personal hygiene is weak according to a pre-test result, which indicates the need of prompt education.
In order to arouse children’s awareness towards their health in terms of personal hygiene, we implemented three health promotion workshops, which included:
-
Inculcating the importance of personal hygiene, foot care and wound management;
-
Shoes-painting activity, which aims at reinforcing their interest of shoes-wearing;
-
Teaching 7 steps of hand-and-foot-washing;
-
Teaching wound management with local reachable resources.
Only when education is irrigated can the behavioral changes be sustained. It is hoped that, they can understand the importance of personal hygiene so as to keep them healthy.
